Laura’s Approach

In my work with clients I adopt an integrative approach, based on my background in Psychology, Neuroscience, Yoga Therapy and Coaching.

I operate within a somatic framework of healing and transformation, and the core of my work consists of helping clients to regulate their nervous system.

This involves learning to observe how mental and emotional imbalances manifest in our physical body, and then use both “top-down” (cognitive) and “bottom-up” (somatic) strategies to regulate them.

My journey with clients always begins with a detailed intake and assessment from a yoga therapy perspective, based on the five “layers” of the human system (physicality, breath, mind, personality and emotions). Rarely do imbalances present exclusively in only one of those layers – e.g. emotional distress often manifest as physical pain and vice versa.

Similarly, imbalances in one layer might require work on another layer in order to get released – e.g. physical pain may not resolve until we address the emotional distress that underlies it. 

My sessions do involve dialogue and reflection, but most importantly engagement in embodied practices including specifically targeted movement, breathwork and attention regulation. I also give clients an individually tailored home practice that they do on a daily basis in between sessions. This is an essential part of my work as it allows individuals to become active agents of change in their healing journey, and not merely passive participants in the therapeutic sessions.
